Overview

You were not created merely for success or fame; you were created for significance. From a Roman prison Paul pleads, “Live a life worthy of your calling.” Pastor Craig explains that calling starts with who you are—holy, set apart—before it ever becomes what you do. When you belong to Jesus, even “donkey duty” can carry eternal weight, because faithfulness in small tasks often advances God’s biggest purposes.

Main Points

A sacred word: “calling” (kaleō)

  • Kaleō = “to call”; root of words for church (ekklēsia), comforter (paraklētos), and more.
  • Being “called-out ones” places weight on ordinary days; we belong to God for His glory.

Who before do

  • 2 Timothy 1:9: God “saved us and called us to live a holy life.”
  • Scripture speaks far more about becoming like Jesus than about choosing a career.
  • If character is missing, no accomplishment fulfills your calling.

Whatever you do, do it for Jesus

  • Whether preaching, parenting, studying, or running a business, motive matters.
  • Colossians principle quoted: “Whatever you do…do it all in the name of the Lord.” (Reference not cited in transcript.)
  • Success = faithfulness today, not prominence tomorrow.

The “donkey duty” lesson (Mark 10–11)

  • Story: James and John crave importance (Mark 10). In the very next scene (Mark 11) Jesus sends “two of them” to fetch a donkey for His triumphal entry.
  • Significance is not measured by visibility; the disciples delivered the animal that carried the Messiah.
  • “The size of your assignment never determines the significance of your impact.”

Faithfulness compounds

  • Illustration: Annual pens from a mentor symbolize another year of steady integrity—far rarer than public success.
  • Finishing well requires daily obedience, not isolated heroic moments.

Key Truths

  • Calling is first about becoming holy, then about specific tasks.
  • Small acts done for Christ can usher in God’s greatest works.
  • Your platform doesn’t impress God; your obedience does.
  • Success in God’s eyes is measured by faithfulness today.
  • The Holy Spirit equips every believer to live a life worthy of the call.

Response

  • Start each day reminding yourself: “I am called by God.”
  • Pursue holiness in private and public choices.
  • Serve wholeheartedly in the task right in front of you—even if it feels like “donkey duty.”
  • Seek ways to meet needs, listen, pray, and love people around you.
  • Measure your day by faithfulness to Jesus, not by recognition from others.

Closing

Paul’s prison-born plea still echoes: live worthy of God’s call. Pastor Craig urged the church to trade the pursuit of importance for the pursuit of integrity, trusting that when we are faithful in whatever we do, our calling will find us.

“Success isn’t accomplishing something big in the future; success is being faithful to Jesus today.”

Prayer

The congregation prayed for God’s Spirit to empower them to live holy, faithful lives and then many prayed a salvation prayer, turning from sin and giving their lives to Jesus, asking to be filled with His Spirit so they could “live a life worthy of the calling.”
