Overview
God’s will is not a fragile roadmap you might miss; it is the daily formation of Christ-like character. Pastor Craig urged us to quit obsessing over tomorrow’s “big decisions” and instead live faithfully and holy today. The better we know God’s heart, the more confidently we will walk into whatever future He chooses.
Main Points
We tend to overthink and under-trust
- Christians usually want God’s will but get paralyzed trying to find the “perfect” option.
- Fear of missing “the one job, the one spouse, the one city” keeps many stuck.
- While chasing tomorrow’s answer, we often ignore today’s assignment.
God’s will is more about a Who than a Do
- Repeated refrain: His primary concern is who you are becoming, not which career, address, or school you choose.
- “Before God guides your steps, He wants to shape your character.”
- Knowing God’s heart precedes discerning God’s plans.
Four aspects of God’s will (review)
- Sovereign will – God’s unstoppable overarching plan.
- Moral will – His revealed commands for how every believer should live.
- Permissive will – What God allows in a fallen world.
- Personal will – The unique good works prepared for each believer.
God’s moral will: be holy
- Hagios = set apart, different, sacred, dedicated to God.
- Romans 12:2 calls believers to resist worldly patterns and let their minds be renewed; only then can they “test and approve” God’s will.
- 2 Timothy 1:9 shows that holiness, not ministry position, is our primary calling.
Don’t obsess over the future; obey today
- Illustration: Jesus (Matthew 6) says not to worry about tomorrow; James (James 4) reminds us life is a mist.
- Tomorrow is not guaranteed; the only certain time to serve Jesus is right now.
- The question shifts from “What should I do?” to “Who does God want me to become?”
Whatever you do, do it for God’s glory
- 1 Corinthians 10:31 applies to every role—student, spouse, employee, parent, business owner.
- There is no single “perfect person” to marry or “perfect job” to land; God perfects you so you can honor Him in whichever place you land.
Faithful in the small things
- Story: Craig honored his wife Amy. Behind her visible impact (raising six kids, leading Sisters ministry, founding Branch 15) are decades of unseen early-morning prayer, mentoring small groups, and steady support at home.
- Small, hidden acts done for God accumulate into “big” kingdom results.
- Sometimes the small things actually are the big things—changing diapers, treating a cashier kindly, leading a life group.
Key Truths
- God’s will begins with holiness; location and occupation are secondary.
- The best way to find God’s will for tomorrow is to live faithfully for Jesus today.
- Character formation precedes divine guidance.
- Worrying about the future wastes the opportunity to obey in the present.
- Ordinary tasks gain eternal weight when done for the glory of God.
Response
- Seek God’s heart daily through Scripture and prayer.
- Examine where your life still conforms to the world and repent.
- Practice holiness in today’s ordinary choices—speech, spending, treatment of people.
- Approach every task—work, study, parenting—as worship “for the glory of God.”
- Confess specific areas with trusted believers and invite God to transform you there.
Closing
Pastor Craig led the church to raise hands in surrender, declaring:
“Whatever I do, I’ll do for the glory of God.”
He reminded us that the Father celebrates who we are becoming more than what we accomplish. Living set apart today positions us to walk confidently into God’s tomorrow.
Prayer
“Heavenly Father, I give You my life. Jesus, save me from my sins. Make me brand new. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so I can know Your voice, do Your will, and show Your love. My life is not my own—I give it all to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
