You Are Invaluable to God’s Work

Scripture References

  • 1 Corinthians 12

Overview

You are not a disposable extra in God’s plan—you are an irreplaceable member of Christ’s body. Drawing from 1 Corinthians 12, Pastor Craig showed that every believer brings a unique, God-given contribution the church cannot afford to lose. Even gifts that seem small, unseen, or unspiritual are essential, and when any member stays dormant the whole body suffers. Today’s call: recognize your worth, wake up, and offer your gifts so Jesus can reach the world through us.

Context

This message is week two of a four-part “I N” series:

  1. I’m Invited
  2. I’m Invaluable (today)
  3. I’m Influential
  4. I’m Invested

The series asks every listener, “Are you in?”

Main Points

Invaluable = Uniquely Valuable

  • Invaluable is the opposite of worthless; it means “of immeasurable worth.”
  • Illustration: A shepherd leaves 99 sheep to rescue one; a parent with six children would never dismiss the loss of one. Likewise, God treasures each person individually.
  • You have God-given passions, talents, and a precise place in history “to best glorify God.”

“You are an invaluable part of the body of Christ.”

Every Part of the Body Matters (1 Corinthians 12)

  • Paul likens the church to a human body: many parts, one whole.
  • A foot, ear, or eye cannot claim non-membership; diversity is by design.
  • Humor: no one stares longingly into an ear, yet hearing is vital.
  • Verse emphasis: parts that “seem the weakest…are actually the most necessary.”

Visibility Does Not Equal Importance

  • Many critical roles are unseen: prayer warriors, greeters, trash-pickers, Switch leaders.
  • Illustration: Pinky finger supplies 50 % of hand strength; the uvula can fill two pools with saliva; armpit hair diffuses scent to attract a mate—obscure parts, major impact.
  • Story: A Gideon handed Pastor Craig a small green Bible in 1988. Decades later that anonymous act was traced to “Mike the Gideon,” proving unseen service can transform lives and ripple outward.

Wake Up and Engage Your Gifts

  • An unused limb “falls asleep” and forces the rest of the body to overwork; the same happens when believers stay inactive.
  • Your past failures don’t disqualify you—often they prepare you to minister.
  • Potential impact when everyone engages: Bible translation for all languages, more churches planted, every foster child placed in a loving home, global needs met.

Key Truths

  • God values you intrinsically as His child and instrumentally for your purpose.
  • The church is not a building we attend but a body we embody.
  • Hidden service is often the hinge on which visible miracles swing.
  • Dormant gifts weaken the whole body; active gifts unleash collective power.
  • Your history, even the painful parts, equips you for specific ministry today.

Response

  • Believe God’s declaration: “I am invaluable.”
  • Wake up spiritually; refuse to let your gifts stay asleep.
  • Offer your abilities, time, and story to serve in your local church.
  • Pray consistently for your pastors, leaders, and those far from God.
  • Look for overlooked needs—smile, welcome, mentor, give, invite.
  • Share your testimony to show others that redemption is possible.

Closing

Pastor Craig pleaded for availability over ability: when every believer rises, cities notice, needs are met, and Christ is glorified. He invited those already in Christ to step fully into their role, and those far from God to become part of the family today.

“Church is not a place we go to meet our needs; we are the church of Jesus Christ, and we meet the needs of people all over this world.”

Prayer

The pastor prayed that God’s Spirit would awaken sleeping parts of the body, give believers eyes to see needs, ears to hear cries, and hearts to love the broken, and that many would receive Christ’s forgiveness and new life.
