Overview

Culture keeps saying, “You are enough,” but the ache in our souls tells another story. Craig Groeschel exposes that feel-good slogan as a false gospel and shows from Scripture that, on our own, we are spiritually dead and never “enough.” The good news: in Christ we are made complete. When we embrace our not-enoughness and call on Jesus, His power is perfected in our weakness and He becomes everything we need.

Main Points

1. The cultural lie: “You are enough”

  • Everywhere—blogs, influencers, podcasts—shout messages like “Girl, you are enough,” “You have what it takes,” “You are Ken-enough.”
  • These slogans make us feel good but quietly install a dangerous false gospel where the savior is self.
  • “When you believe you’re enough, you won’t seek the One who is.”

2. Our real condition without Christ

  • Scripture’s portrait is stark:
    • Dead in sin (Ephesians 2)
    • Without hope or help, foolish, deceived, spiritually blind, wretched, miserable, objects of wrath.
  • Romans 3:10: no one is righteous—not even one.
  • Sin isn’t just legal rebellion; it’s a personal offense against a relational God whose heart we break.

3. The rescue only Jesus provides

  • Colossians 2: All the fullness of God lives in Christ; we are complete only through union with Him.
  • Ephesians 2:4-5 —

“But God, who is so rich in mercy and loved us so much… made us alive with Christ.”

  • Salvation is not God doing His part while we do ours. We were face-down dead in the water; He lifted us out and breathed life into us.

4. Embracing not-enoughness leads to true confidence

  • 2 Corinthians 3:4: our sufficiency is from God, not ourselves.
  • Jesus meets every need: Helper, Strength, Hope, Rest, Peace, Provider, Comforter, Savior.
  • Personal story: Craig’s college drunkenness, deceit, and addiction showed him he couldn’t fix himself; Christ transformed him completely.
  • Illustration: a child calling a father for advice—far from annoying, the father is honored. God feels the same when we call on Him.

5. Application: move from self-reliance to God-dependence

  • Reflection questions:
    1. In what area of my life am I relying on myself instead of God?
    2. What is God calling me to do about it (surrender, confess, invite help, pray with others)?
  • Life groups and friendships are places to process these questions and “encourage one another daily.”

Key Truths

  • The slogan “You are enough” is an empty philosophy rooted in human thinking, not Christ.
  • Without Jesus we are spiritually dead and objects of wrath; with Him we are alive and complete.
  • Self-confidence collapses, but Christ-confidence stands because our sufficiency is from God.
  • God designed us to need Him; calling on Him honors Him and activates His help.
  • His power shows up precisely where we are weakest.

Response

  • Admit where you are not enough and confess your need for Jesus.
  • Stop measuring yourself against others; compare your life to God’s holiness and run to His mercy.
  • Identify one area of self-reliance this week and intentionally hand it over to God in prayer.
  • Invite trusted believers to pray and walk with you so that iron can sharpen iron.
  • Regularly call on the Lord, believing He hears, draws near, and delivers.

Prayer

Speaker’s closing prayer (condensed):
Lord, we are not enough, but You are. We lift our burdens to You—our children, finances, health, fears, and failures. Meet every lifted hand with Your exact provision. Forgive our sins, fill us with Your Spirit, and bring dead places to life. We surrender every part of our lives to You, in Jesus’ name.
