Freedom Through the Word: A Veteran’s Healing Journey
Testimonies
Afghanistan Veteran (2008, 2011, 2012 deployments)
• Setting / life context
Deployed three times to Afghanistan. Returned from the last tour “really tough,” battling PTSD and TBI.
• Key turning points and miracles
- “I was basically being tormented every night through vivid hallucinations and reliving events.”
- Felt his “whole self-worth as a man, as a husband and a father” collapse and looked “for a way out.”
- Reading was impossible: “I’d read the same sentence four or five six times; words just weren’t making sense.”
- Discovered the audio feature on the Bible app: “You can’t hear God’s Word and not be affected.”
- Began playing a chapter every night—sometimes two or three when sleep wouldn’t come.
- Over months, faith grew; experienced physical and emotional healing: “I feel like He’s turned my entire life around… ignited my spirit in ways that continue to blow me away every day.”
• Scriptures referenced
- 2 Timothy 1:8-9 (quoted: “share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God who saved us”)
- Ephesians 2:8 (quoted: “by grace you have been saved through faith… it is the gift of God”)
• Spiritual insights and emotions expressed
- God’s Word acted “like an anchor tying me back to reality.”
- In his darkest hour, “He showed up in a real way.”
- Now walks in renewed purpose, describing grace and kindness as “growing my faith… stronger.”
