Overview

Jesus’ words in Matthew 25 anchor the entire message: when we serve people society overlooks, we are actually serving Him. Pastor Craig and four staff members share real-life stories that prove lasting fulfillment is found not in serving ourselves but in giving our lives away. Each testimony shows how one simple act—an invitation, a smile, a place to belong—became the doorway God used to redeem individuals, transform families, and even launch lifelong callings.

Main Points

Made to make a difference

  • Most people sense they were created for significance yet drift into routine.
  • Matthew 25: Serving the hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, sick, or imprisoned equals serving Jesus Himself.
  • Momentary happiness comes from self-service; lasting fulfillment comes from serving others.

Story 1 – Lauren & Leo: Generosity turns entrepreneurs into missionaries

  • Story: Lauren felt called to missions as a child but, after traumatic abuse and a church leader’s hurtful words, abandoned the dream and chased material success.
  • She and Leo, both on second marriages, began attending Life.Church Edmond after Lauren insisted on being invited. Warm greetings shattered her expectation of judgment.
  • After a message on tithing, they committed to give 50 % of business profits to God.
  • Discovering the church’s commitment to end Bible poverty, Lauren realized her generosity now places Scripture in people’s hands worldwide—fulfilling her original missionary call.
  • Sam quoted Romans 5: suffering produces perseverance; God’s love is poured out through the Spirit.

Story 2 – Brandon: From addiction and ankle monitor to 19 months sober

  • Story: Brandon arrived at Life.Church Lenexa under house arrest, carrying trauma, depression, and past incarcerations.
  • Friendly hosts and non-judgmental community opened his heart; he gave his life to Jesus.
  • Baptized outside the building because the ankle monitor couldn’t go in the pool—his daughter Rey watched her dad change.
  • Child Protective Services later forced him out of the house; through a missions partner (Hope Is Alive) he found sober housing, accountability, and continued church connection.
  • Now 19 months sober and serving on the Host Team, Brandon greets guests with the same grace he once received.
  • Heather highlighted 1 Corinthians 13:4-5—love keeps no record of wrongs; in Christ Brandon’s record is wiped clean.

Story 3 – Cameo & David: A six-year-old’s “second question” unlocks hope

  • Story: Julie and her 6-year-old son Jordan ordered sandwiches in an empty shop.
    • Illustration: Jordan first asked, “Who’s the sandwich for?” then followed with the life-changing second question: “Are you bringing it home to him?”
  • Cameo, the employee, admitted she and 15-year-old David were living in their car after being abandoned.
  • Julie emptied her wallet to help and promised to save them a seat at Life.Church Mansfield.
  • Cameo felt she met family for the first time, heard Pastor Craig’s message, and surrendered to Jesus.
  • The next week David attended a “Peace of Mind” sermon on anxiety/depression and also raised his hand for salvation.
  • Jazz read Galatians 5:22, emphasizing the Spirit’s fruit—especially kindness—and urged listeners to keep asking the second question and inviting others.

Story 4 – Kevin: From nine years homeless to staff pastor

  • Story: Kevin grew up amid abuse, neglect, and weeks alone without power or food. At 16 he defended his mother from a violent man; she sent him away, beginning nine years of homelessness, substance abuse, and suicidal thoughts.
  • Years later his brother Gary invited him to Life.Church Shawnee. Loved from the first handshake, Kevin raised his hand week after week until certain salvation had “taken.”
  • Baptized, he became a trusted volunteer but stepped down after a DUI. The church walked with him through healing.
  • He later re-entered ministry as a “switch buddy” to one special-needs student—Pastor Trevor’s son Blake.
  • Today Kevin is on Life.Church staff and married to a woman he met through the church.
  • Trevor thanked givers whose generosity built the Shawnee campus where Kevin met Christ.

Invitation to serve and invite

  • Ask God to show one person to invite—then act.
  • Simple actions (a smile, a question, a seat saved, faithful serving) are acts of worship to Jesus Himself.
  • Church opportunities—from LifeKids to hosting to online ministry—are modern mission fields.

Key Truths

  • Serving people is serving Jesus; significance is discovered in self-sacrifice.
  • One invitation or act of kindness can redirect generations.
  • God redeems broken stories—addiction, homelessness, abuse—into powerful testimonies.
  • Love that keeps no record of wrongs silences shame and unlocks new identity.
  • The Holy Spirit produces lasting fruit; generosity and service flow from His life within us.

Response

  • Ask God daily, “Who do You want me to serve or invite?” then obey immediately.
  • Step into a serving role—online, in LifeKids, on the Host Team, anywhere needs are present.
  • Practice generosity: decide a percentage or gift that stretches faith and blesses others.
  • Offer a second question—listen past surface answers to uncover real needs.
  • Surrender lingering guilt, addiction, or past failures to Jesus and pursue community for healing.

Closing

Pastor Craig celebrated dozens of raised hands for salvation and reminded the church that the same grace available to Brandon, Cameo, Kevin, and Lauren is offered to every listener. Lasting fulfillment comes only when we are “wholly broken and fully surrendered,” letting God use us to serve the least of these for His glory.

“If you want momentary happiness, serve yourself. If you want lasting fulfillment, serve someone else.”

Prayer

Congregation prayed together, surrendering to Christ, asking forgiveness, inviting the Holy Spirit’s power, and pledging: “My life is not my own; I surrender to You, Jesus. Use me to love and serve others.”
