Overview

Culture keeps repeating, “You are enough,” but Pastor Craig showed that the claim is almost true—and therefore dangerously false. Without Christ we are spiritually dead, powerless, and objects of wrath; trying harder or speaking positive mantras cannot fix that. The good news is found in two words—“but God.” In His mercy He makes us alive with Christ and becomes our sufficiency. Because Jesus is more than enough, we abandon self-reliance, run to Him, and find strength perfected in our weakness.

Main Points

1. The cultural mantra: “You are enough”

  • Heard in blogs, podcasts, influencers, even toys: “Believe in yourself,” “You have what it takes,” “You are Ken-enough.”
  • Feels encouraging but quietly makes you the savior of your own story.
  • Two toxic outcomes:
    • Guilt & shame when you realize you still aren’t “enough.”
    • Pride & self-sufficiency when you think you are.
  • “When you believe you’re enough, you won’t seek the One who is.”

2. Scripture’s diagnosis: we are absolutely not enough

  • Colossians 2 warns against “empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense” that come from human thinking and spiritual powers, not Christ.
  • Without Jesus:
    • Dead in sin (Ephesians 2).
    • Without hope or help; spiritually blind; wretched and miserable.
    • Objects of wrath, destined for destruction.
  • Romans 3:10: “No one is righteous, not even one.”
  • Sin is not only a legal offense against a holy God; it is a personal wound to a relational Father.
  • Story: Pastor Craig described his college years—lying, addictions, drunken blackouts, and waking up spiritually bankrupt—to illustrate the depth of human lostness.

3. The gospel interruption: “But God”

  • Ephesians 2 proclaims that God, rich in mercy and great love, made us alive with Christ.
  • Salvation is 100 % God’s work; we contribute nothing but our deadness.
    • Illustration: We’re not drowning people pulling ourselves into God’s boat; we’re lifeless in the water until He hauls us in and breathes life.

4. Life in Christ: sufficiency replaced by His sufficiency

  • 2 Corinthians 3:4–5—our competence comes from God.
  • Because Jesus is our:
    • Helper when helpless
    • Strength when weak
    • Hope when depressed
    • Rest when exhausted
    • Peace when anxious
    • Provider when lacking
    • Comforter when hurting
    • Savior who sets free
  • His power “is made perfect in your weakness.”

5. The application question

  • Ask and discuss:
    1. In what area of my life am I relying on myself instead of God?
    2. What is God calling me to do about it? (Surrender, confess, invite community, pray, etc.)

6. Invitation & response

  • Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
  • Pastor Craig led hearers to confess their need, receive Christ, and experience new life.

Key Truths

  • An almost-true statement can quietly replace the true gospel.
  • Without Christ we aren’t just flawed; we are spiritually dead.
  • God’s mercy is most visible against the backdrop of our hopelessness.
  • Salvation is by grace alone—Jesus does all the saving, we do all the receiving.
  • Our weakness is not a liability but the stage for Christ’s perfected power.

Response

  • Admit you are not enough and stop pretending you are.
  • Identify one self-reliant area and hand it to Jesus in prayer.
  • Discuss the application questions with your LifeGroup or a trusted friend.
  • When anxiety rises, consciously “call on the Lord,” trusting He draws near.
  • Share your salvation story publicly; don’t keep God’s rescue private.

Closing

Pastor Craig ended by lifting hands across rooms and online, praying that God would meet every person who finally stopped trying to be sufficient. The call was simple:

“Call on Him—where you’re weak, His power is made perfect.”
Because Jesus is more than enough, we can lay every burden at His feet and live in the freedom His grace provides.

Prayer

The congregation prayed corporately, confessing sin, surrendering self-reliance, and thanking God for new life through Christ, ending with commitment: “My life is not my own; I give it all to You.”
