Overview

God designed every one of us to live connected to Him and to one another, yet our natural tendency is to slip into isolation. Pastor Sam Marín shows how to fight that drift by remembering God’s faithfulness, relying on the right people, and releasing the power of our own stories. When we do, we discover that we never have to stand alone—God places us “stone by stone” into His church family for our good and for His glory.

Main Points

Remember the faithfulness of God

  • Everyone needs God; a relationship with Him is the most important connection.
  • God promises to walk with us in wilderness seasons, valleys, and victories.
  • Illustration: Israel crossing the Jordan; God told them to stack 12 stones so future generations would ask, “What do these stones mean?” (Joshua 4:21-22).
  • Personal pain can blur our memory of God’s goodness, but memorial “stones” (answered prayers, rescues, forgiveness) help us look back with clarity.
  • Story: Kristi, wearing an ankle monitor after prison, wanted to be baptized. A plastic bag and duct tape made it possible—an unforgettable stone of God’s grace.

Rely on God’s people

  • Everybody needs somebody, but not just anybody—the right, godly people.
  • The quality of your companions often determines the direction of your life.
  • Social media can create counterfeit connection and deepen isolation; authentic community heals it.
  • Proverbs warns that wisdom is found with the wise and danger with fools.
  • Three on-ramps at Life.Church:
    1. Start serving—walk beside people moving the same direction.
    2. Join a LifeGroup—consistent, accountable community.
    3. Get real—drop the mask and admit struggles.

Release the power of your story

  • Somebody needs you; your past pain becomes someone else’s breakthrough.
  • Illustration: David chose five smooth stones to defeat Goliath—our “smoothed” life experiences can fell giants in others.
  • Painful, jagged moments (addiction, divorce, abandonment, loss) are smoothed by God’s grace and turned into weapons of love.
  • Story: After Sam and Liz lost a baby, a Church Online volunteer who had faced the same grief prayed with Sam and spoke hope. Her story dismantled his giant; now his story does the same for others.

Key Truths

  • We were created for connection, but without intention we drift toward isolation.
  • God never abandons His children; remembering His past work fuels present faith.
  • The right relationships propel us toward God’s purpose, while the wrong ones pull us away.
  • Your redeemed pain is a powerful tool in God’s hands to help set others free.
  • Together, God is building His church “stone by stone,” and no believer is meant to stand alone.

Response

  • Pause this week to identify and thank God for specific “stones” of His faithfulness in your life.
  • Evaluate your inner circle; seek out or strengthen relationships that draw you closer to Christ.
  • Take one concrete step: begin serving, join a LifeGroup, or open up honestly to trusted friends.
  • Share a part of your story with someone who faces a similar struggle and offer to pray with them.

Closing

Pastor Sam urged every listener to reject loneliness and step into the family God is forming. By remembering God’s goodness, leaning on His people, and telling our stories, we fight the drift and walk in the community we were created for.

“Perhaps your story could be the stone that takes down someone else’s giant.”

Prayer

The congregation thanked God for His constant presence, asked for courage to pursue authentic community, and surrendered personal stories for His use. The prayer ended with gratitude for new life in Jesus and a commitment to follow Him together.
