Overview
God has already placed powerful “seeds” of purpose inside every believer. Even when parts of life look like Death Valley—dry, barren, hopeless—those seeds are waiting for the right rain to burst into color. In this message we’re urged to enter 2021 with hearts that are both humble and open, so nothing blocks the growth God planned for us before the foundation of the world.
Context
The sermon opens with the 2005 “super-bloom” in Death Valley: after a rare rain, the desert exploded with flowers. That picture frames the whole talk—what looks lifeless may already be loaded with hidden life.
Main Points
Seeds Are Already in the Ground
- God plants destiny-seeds in our hearts long before we see results.
- Death Valley became a garden because the seeds were there all along; rain simply activated what was dormant.
- Illustration: Death Valley’s 2005 bloom drew scientists from around the world; likewise, people will be amazed when God awakens the seeds in us.
You Can Become What God Has Already Made You
-
“You can be everything that God has already made you.”
- Genesis 17: God calls childless Abram “Abraham, father of many nations” before a single child is born.
- Ephesians 1:4 & Psalm 139: our callings were set “before the foundation of the world” and woven into us in the womb.
- We cannot become “anything,” but we can become everything God pre-planted in us—holy, more than conquerors, fruitful.
- Judges 6: Gideon is named a “mighty warrior” while hiding; the title matches the seed God planted, not Gideon’s feelings.
Attitude 1 — A Humble Heart
- God’s seeds only grow in humble soil; pride “aborts the seed.”
- James 4:6: God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.
- Three tools God uses to keep us humble:
- His Word (it sometimes “slaps us in the face” through conviction).
- His Spirit (inner nudges to repent and ask forgiveness).
- Other People (the hardest method).
- Story: A 14-year-old suggested doing a Jesus concert at Disneyland Paris. The pastor dismissed the idea, then felt the Spirit correct his pride; after a reluctant call and a series of miracles, the youth team ended up leading full evangelistic concerts on the main stage at Disneyland—proof that humility can unlock unexpected seeds.
Attitude 2 — An Open Heart
- Some coming dreams are bigger than our current heart-capacity.
- Isaiah 55:8-9 invites us to leave “low thoughts” and rise to God’s higher ways.
- The seed’s limit is not its potential but the size of the flowerpot; our hearts must enlarge to match God-sized dreams.
- Story: Renting the largest cruise ship in Scandinavia for a 2,000-person, no-alcohol youth conference seemed impossible. After prayer and bold contact, the ship’s CEO (convicted about profiting from alcohol) cut the cost by 80%. The vessel became a floating church, making national headlines and proving that an expanded heart receives expanded influence.
- Enter 2021 expecting rain—miracles, breakthroughs, and new assignments for individuals, marriages, families, and churches.
Key Truths
- Hidden seeds of destiny already exist in every believer’s heart.
- You will become what God has already declared you to be, not whatever you choose.
- Pride chokes growth; humility invites God’s favor and releases dormant seeds.
- God often speaks impossible-sized dreams that require our hearts to expand.
- The apparent desert in your life can quickly bloom when the Holy Spirit “rain” arrives.
Response
- Guard your heart daily; refuse pride and welcome God’s correction.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to water dormant callings with fresh faith.
- Obey even “crazy” promptings, regardless of who delivers them.
- Enlarge your expectations for 2021—plan for miracles, not maintenance.
- Celebrate and testify when God turns your personal Death Valley into a garden.
Closing
The message ends with a charge to walk into 2021 “with humble hearts, open hearts, and full of expectancy” because God’s rain is already on the way and His seeds are ready to sprout.
“Let us walk into 2021 with humble hearts but also open hearts and full of expectancy for every single miracle we’re about to see.”
Prayer
The pastor thanked God for planning each life before creation, for planting seeds in every heart, and asked that as the new year begins believers would remain humble, allow their hearts to expand, and experience breakthroughs and miracles—in Jesus’ name.
