Overview

When life feels confusing and every voice around you offers shallow slogans, God has already given what we truly need—a “Wonderful Counselor.” Seven centuries before Jesus’ birth, Isaiah foretold a Savior who would carry that name. Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, still guides our steps, comforts our pain, and heals our deepest wounds. The message invites everyone weighed down by decisions, hurt, or fear to bring those burdens to Him and experience His supernatural wisdom and love.

Context

Isaiah prophesied during a season much like ours: people believed in God but lived without true relationship, anxiety was high, and the future felt uncertain. Into that climate God promised a child—Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace—offering not more “broken advice from a broken world” but divine counsel.

Main Points

1. The Wonderful Counselor GUIDES your steps

  • Jesus promised “another Counselor” (John 14), the Holy Spirit—Parakletos: One who comes alongside to help, advocate, and defend.
  • God’s primary voice is His Word. We filter our experiences through Scripture, not Scripture through experience.
  • Common self-justifications (“God told me to divorce…,” “God gave me peace to sleep with my boyfriend…”) are exposed when weighed against the Bible.
  • Illustration: Late-night TikTok/Youtube advice versus lasting truth.
  • Story: As a pilot, Craig initially missed Air Traffic Control calls; with time in the cockpit he learned to recognize “1810 Alpha.” Likewise, time in God’s Word and presence trains our ears for His voice.

“The more time you spend in His Word and the more time you spend in His presence, the better you’ll get at recognizing His voice.”

2. The Wonderful Counselor COMFORTS your soul

  • The KJV renders Parakletos “Comforter” (John 14:16); Isaiah compares God’s tenderness to a mother soothing her child (Isaiah 66:13).
  • Presence itself carries healing power; you can represent God’s comfort simply by showing up.
  • Story: As a young pastor, Craig could only weep with a grieving family, yet they later thanked him—proof that God’s comfort flowed through silent presence.
  • Small moments—Bible verses, worship lyrics, texts from friends, a life-group prayer—are often the Spirit’s way of saying, “You’re not alone.”

3. The Wonderful Counselor HEALS your heart

  • God “heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
  • Earthly counselors know only what we reveal; the Wonderful Counselor sees every buried hurt and the root beneath each behavior.
  • Abuse, betrayal, addictions, insecurities—none are hidden from His restoring love.
  • Story: Pastor Craig shared deliverance from alcohol addiction, healed family relationships, and ongoing peace while his daughters battle chronic illness.

“Wherever you are hurting, His love is healing.”

Key Truths

  • Jesus is not merely a wise advisor; He is the supernatural, trustworthy Wonderful Counselor foretold in Isaiah.
  • The Holy Spirit dwells with believers to guide, comfort, and advocate continuously.
  • Scripture is the non-negotiable standard for discerning God’s guidance.
  • God’s comfort often arrives through the simple, Spirit-directed presence of His people.
  • No wound is too hidden or too old for the Wonderful Counselor to heal.

Response

  • Immerse yourself daily in God’s Word to train your ear for His voice.
  • Surrender decisions and desires to Scriptural authority rather than personal feelings.
  • Invite the Holy Spirit to reveal and heal hidden hurts.
  • Offer Christ-like presence to someone grieving or confused this week.
  • Call on Jesus openly when anxiety, pain, or uncertainty rise—He is near.

Closing

The world preaches “follow your heart,” but Isaiah’s prophecy points us to Someone far better. Jesus, our Wonderful Counselor, still stands beside us to direct, comfort, and restore. Draw near, cast every care on Him, and walk in the sure guidance of His Spirit.

“He’s the Counselor who loves you and will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Prayer

The congregation thanked God for being the Wonderful Counselor, asked for wisdom in decisions, comfort for pain, and healing for every hidden wound, ending in surrender: “My life is not my own; I give my whole life to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
