Overview

Christmas magnifies whatever we already feel, yet few of us would say we feel peace. The birth of Jesus was Heaven’s announcement of “peace on earth,” yet many believers still live anxious, heavy, or afraid. Drawing from Isaiah’s prophecy of the Prince of Peace and the angels’ song over Bethlehem, the message traces three scriptural truths that show how Jesus gives real peace today: peace with God, peace from God, and the peace of God.

Context

The pastor informally polled thirty people about the emotions they felt most this month; answers ranged from excitement to grief, but no one mentioned peace. That gap framed the entire teaching.

Main Points

1. Jesus gives us peace with God

  • We all desire peace of mind, but it starts with being at peace with God Himself.
  • Romans 5:1: being “justified through faith” brings peace with God—nothing to do with personal effort or rule-keeping.
  • Greek legal term “justified” = declared righteous though guilty.
    • Illustration: Traffic-court story—after admitting he was “a dumb, dumb, bad, bad idiot” for an expired tag, the judge banged the gavel and dismissed the fine; though guilty, he walked out legally free. That is what God does for sinners who trust Jesus.
  • Personal testimony: years of church attendance without peace; in college he knelt alone, trusted Christ, and was made new by grace.

2. Jesus gives us peace from God

  • John 14: Jesus leaves “My peace,” a gift unlike the world’s circumstantial calm.
  • Worldly peace depends on perfect surroundings; God’s peace flows from His presence within.
  • The same peace that calmed the sea can calm an anxious heart.
    • Simple analogy: bubble-bath relaxation is pleasant but not the same as Christ’s peace.
  • We cannot find or earn this peace; only Jesus can give it.

3. Jesus gives us the peace of God

  • Philippians 4:6: present every anxiety to God; then “the peace of God…will guard your hearts and minds.”
    • Greek picture of “guard” = armed soldier standing watch—peace actively protects against fear, shame, or condemnation.
  • Story: His daughter Katie’s newborn was pronounced brain-damaged after a complicated birth. While the family reeled, Katie repeatedly said, “Jesus loves her, and Jesus loves us—it’s going to be okay.” Doctors later reported the baby showed no brain damage. Two miracles followed: the baby’s healing and Katie’s unexplainable calm—the peace of God.
  • Even unresolved situations can be lived through with this guarding peace because God is faithful and near.

Key Truths

  • True peace begins the moment we are justified by faith in Jesus, not by religious performance.
  • Christ’s own peace is a gift the world cannot give and circumstances cannot steal.
  • God’s peace is active; it stands guard over hearts and minds against fear, shame, and anxiety.
  • Miracles may be immediate or delayed, but the presence of Jesus offers peace in either outcome.
  • Christmas proves that peace has a name—the Prince of Peace, Jesus.

Response

  • Examine your standing with God; place full faith in Jesus to be justified.
  • Receive Christ’s peace daily by inviting His presence when anxiety rises.
  • Replace worry with prayer, presenting every request to God with thanksgiving.
  • Speak Scripture-based truth when fear knocks: declare what God’s peace guards you from.
  • Share this peace by comforting others who feel unseen or heavy during the season.

Closing

The baby in Bethlehem was not a soldier or politician but Heaven’s answer to earth’s turmoil. Peace came wrapped in flesh, and that peace is still available.

“Peace has a name, and His name is Jesus.”
Whoever believes in Him finds peace with God, receives peace from God, and lives guarded by the peace of God— a peace no season, storm, or circumstance can remove.

Prayer

The congregation prayed for God’s supernatural peace over every burden: grieving families, anxious hearts, strained marriages, financial stress, and unanswered questions. They asked that the promised peace of Jesus would settle minds, heal hurts, provide strength, and draw many into saving faith.
