Overview

We closed the “Think Ahead” series by asking, “What would life look like if you woke up every day gripped by the one reason God put you here?” Looking at Joseph’s long arc in Genesis, Pastor Chris Beall showed how every God-given dream moves through four predictable phases—prompting, uncertainty, resistance, and finally clarity that blesses others and glorifies God. Your past pain, spiritual gifts, and core values converge to reveal that purpose, and God will grow your capacity through the struggle so you can live it out.

Main Points

The Spirit’s Prompting

  • Every story of God starts because He initiates.
  • Joseph, 17, received an obscure agricultural dream that hinted at future influence (Genesis 37).
  • Promptings often arrive as nudges, burdens, or verses that refuse to leave you.
    • Story: In the Beals’ marriage crisis, Cindy twice received Habakkuk 2:3 on the same day, confirming God saw her and had a future “vision for the appointed time.”

Certain Uncertainty

  • God rarely gives “Google-Maps” directions; He invites us to lean in.
  • Craig’s “Chazown” grid:
    1. Spiritual gifts
    2. Core values (what fires you up)
    3. Past experiences (especially pain)
    • Where the three overlap, purpose emerges.
  • Question to test the dream: “If money (or time, or health) were no object, what would I do for the rest of my life?”

Predictable Resistance

  • Joseph’s brothers hated the dreamer, plotted murder, then sold him (Genesis 37:8).
  • One step forward, three steps back: favored slave → framed by Potiphar’s wife → prison (Genesis 40 & 41).
  • Expect haters and setbacks; they expand your capacity.
    • Quote: “It will be different, harder, and longer than you think—yet infinitely better than you can imagine.”
  • God’s favor followed Joseph everywhere, preparing him for greater responsibility.

Uncommon Clarity

  • Interpreting Pharaoh’s dream, Joseph finally sees purpose: seven years of plenty, seven of famine (Genesis 41:1).
  • Humility replaces youthful boasting: “It has nothing to do with me—God will give Pharaoh the answer.”
  • Elevated to second-in-command, Joseph saves nations and eventually his own family (Genesis 45:4).
    • Quote: “God sent me ahead of you…to preserve a remnant and bring about a great deliverance.”
  • The remnant included Judah, forefather of Jesus—the true Deliverer. Your dream is never just about you; it always serves God’s larger redemption story.

Key Truths

  • God plants a unique dream in every believer; you are His masterpiece prepared for good works.
  • Purpose is discovered at the intersection of gifts, passions, and life story—especially redeemed pain.
  • Resistance is not evidence you missed God; it is often confirmation you are on the right track.
  • Humility and perseverance turn obscure promptings into clarified assignments.
  • The ultimate aim of any God-given dream is to glorify Christ and bless people, sometimes generations later.

Response

  • Invite the Holy Spirit to nudge you, then write down what stirs.
  • Map your gifts, core values, and significant life events; look for the overlap.
  • Embrace current setbacks as training rather than detours.
  • Speak about your dream with humility, giving God credit for every opportunity.
  • Act today on one small step that aligns with the vision God is forming.

Closing

Joseph’s life reminds us that while our dream is not about us, it can only be lived by us. God is weaving your story into something far bigger than you can see. Decide now: if He shows you the next step, your answer is already “yes.” > “God sent me ahead…to bring about a great deliverance.”

Prayer

Father, we confess our need for You. Thank-You for Jesus, who bore our sin and rose to give us life. Fill us with Your Spirit so we can live the dream You prepared for us long ago, for Your glory and the good of others, in Jesus’ name.
