Scripture

Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart.

2 Corinthians 4:1

Devotional

Yesterday we stood before the truth that God sees the heart, not the polished outside. Today that same journey goes one step further. When the heart grows tired in family life, ministry, and the weight of responsibility, the danger is not only hypocrisy but discouragement. Yet even as you look at your wife, your family, and the quiet ways God has provided, you can also see that this calling did not begin with your strength. It began with His mercy, and that is why you do not have to lose heart.

In , Paul says that through God’s mercy we have this ministry, and therefore we do not lose heart. He was not speaking from comfort or ease. He knew pressure, misunderstanding, weakness, and opposition. Still, he traced his calling back to mercy, not merit. That matters deeply. If ministry rests on personal ability, then failure, criticism, and exhaustion will crush us. But if ministry is received as mercy, then even in weakness we remember that God is the One who called, sustains, and carries His servants.

This is the grace you need in real life. When the burdens rise, the heart often starts looking for someone to blame. We blame people for not understanding, circumstances for being too heavy, or ourselves for not being enough. But the gospel redirects the heart from blame to grace. Your calling as a husband, servant, preacher, and believer is not upheld by your perfection. It rests on the mercy of God. His mercy does not excuse sin or deny weariness, but it keeps your heart from collapsing under the false weight of self-reliance.

So today, when frustration rises, pause before you assign fault. Return first to mercy. Name one place where your heart has shifted into blame, resentment, or self-condemnation, and bring that place before the Lord. Then thank Him that what He has entrusted to you is still held together by His grace. Before this day ends, where do you need to stop saying, This is too much for me, and start saying, This calling rests on God’s mercy?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are merciful, kind, and faithful. You call and sustain Your people not because we are strong, but because You are full of grace.

I confess that when I grow tired, I quickly drift into blame, frustration, and self-reliance. I often look at people, pressures, or myself instead of returning to Your mercy.

Thank You for giving me life and calling through Jesus Christ. Thank You that Your grace is greater than my weakness, and that Your mercy holds me when my heart feels worn.

Holy Spirit, turn my heart from blame to grace today. Help me remember that my calling rests on mercy, and strengthen me to serve my family and ministry with humility, peace, and renewed trust. Amen.
