Sin At The Door

Over the last two days, we have seen that sibling rivalry is not just about personality clashes or unfair treatment. It grows where worship is displaced and where the heart begins comparing, resenting, and keeping score. Your story shows both sides of that reality. Family can wound deeply, yet when Christ enters a home, peace can begin to settle in. That is why today’s warning is so important. God does not only expose the heart. He also warns us about what happens next if jealousy is left alone.

In Genesis 4:7, the Lord speaks to Cain with remarkable mercy. Before the murder, before the full collapse, God confronts him and says that sin is crouching at the door. This is not just a picture of bad feelings. It is a picture of danger waiting to enter and rule. Cain thought his problem was Abel, but God showed him the deeper battle was within. Anger, envy, and wounded pride were not harmless emotions. They were an opening through which sin wanted mastery.

That is still how jealousy works in families. It often begins quietly. Someone else is noticed. Someone else seems more loved, more successful, more understood. Then the heart starts building a case. We replay words, assign motives, and turn pain into accusation. But the real crisis is not first outside us. It is whether we will bring that rising anger into God’s presence before it hardens. The gospel tells you that you do not have to be ruled by what rises in you. In Christ, sin is not your master. The Spirit helps you face the inner battle honestly and turn before resentment takes root.

So interrupt anger early today. Do not wait until your words sharpen or your silence becomes punishment. When you feel that inner heat rising, stop and name it before God. Pray, Lord, sin is at the door, help me not open it. Step away if needed. Refuse to rehearse the offense. Replace the first angry response with one act of surrender, prayer, or quiet restraint. Thank You for Your grace in Christ. Thank You that You do not leave me to be mastered by sin, but meet me with forgiveness, truth, and the power of Your Spirit.

Holy Spirit, help me interrupt anger early today. Teach me to notice the first signs, bring them to You, and choose peace instead of resentment, especially in my family. Amen.
