Do Not Remain Silent, but Profess

Core idea: Jesus calls me not to fear in times of opposition, but to profess Him openly, because the truth will ultimately prevail and my heavenly Father takes meticulous care of me.

Where This Touches Daily Life

  • When a family member or close friend responds mockingly to your faith and you would prefer to remain silent so as not to spoil the atmosphere.
  • During a meeting or class where biblical values are discussed and you feel that your position is unpopular.
  • While scrolling through social media, where faith is publicly criticized and you hesitate to share something about Jesus.
  • On the school playground, at the sports club, or at a neighborhood barbecue when someone loudly claims that Christianity is outdated.
  • In a one-on-one conversation with a colleague who asks why you still go to church, and you are afraid of giving a “religious speech.”

Heart Examination

  1. What am I currently more afraid of: the possible loss of status/relationship, or missing God’s joy if I remain silent about Jesus?
  2. When was the last time I consciously chose to speak—or not to speak—about my faith, and what drove that choice?
  3. How deeply do I realize that my Father even counts the hairs on my head and therefore also limits every form of opposition?
  4. What exactly is my inner “voice of fear” telling me—and which truth from Jesus can expose it?

Practice for This Week

Choose one concrete situation in which you already know that tension may arise around your faith (at home, at work, online, in your studies, or at the sports club).

  1. Pray for one minute beforehand for boldness and remind yourself of : “So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
  2. Formulate in no more than two sentences what you want to profess about Jesus (e.g., “I believe that He lives and grants forgiveness”).
  3. When the moment arises, speak this brief confession calmly and respectfully—regardless of the response.

Consider the practice “completed” when you have done this once and then placed it back in the Lord’s hands in prayer.

Option for a busy week: Post or send one clear sentence about your trust in Jesus through your most-used channel and pray for those who read it.

Stretch option: Intentionally seek out the person you know is most strongly opposed to your faith, listen carefully to his/her questions first, and then share your confession with love and patience.

Pay Attention to This

  • The temptation to package silence as “wisdom” when it is actually fear.
  • The opposite extreme: shouting harshly without love, causing both the message and you yourself to be written off.
  • Disappointment when there is no immediate positive response; seed needs time to germinate.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You know every hair on my head, and no sparrow falls without Your knowledge. Thank You that I am worth so much more in Your eyes. Give me courage today not to remain silent when professing Your Son is necessary. Fill my heart with holy awe for You, stronger than my fear of people. Help me speak the truth in love and rest in confidence in Your continual care. In Jesus’ name, amen.
