Get Ready for Armageddon

Big Idea: Though a last-days coalition will rise against Israel, God Himself will intervene, Jesus will return in power, and His people can face the future with confident hope rather than panic.

Overview

Ezekiel’s final chapters look far beyond his own century. In chapters 38–39 the prophet describes a future invasion of Israel led by “Gog of Magog,” a confederation of nations God will judge in the climactic Battle of Armageddon. The preacher traced how those ancient names align with present-day Russia, Iran, and other regional players, showing how current alliances resemble Ezekiel’s forecast. He then compared with and , demonstrating that the initial campaign Ezekiel saw merges into the worldwide conflict Revelation calls Armageddon, which ends with the visible return of Christ. Believers therefore must not become “Chicken Little” Christians who spread fear; instead we lift up our heads, knowing our redemption is near and our King will reign.

Key Scripture

  • — The foundation of the whole message: nations gather against Israel, but God vows to defend His name.
  • — The turning point of the narrative: Armageddon, marked by earthquake, plague, and hail.
  • — The climactic victory: Jesus returns as King of kings to strike the hostile nations.

Main Points

1. Prophecy is meant to give hope, not hysteria

• The preacher opened with the “Chicken Little” fable to warn against doomsday panic.
• Jesus told His disciples, “Let not your hearts be troubled” (); prophecy ends in rescue, not ruin.

2. names a real future coalition

  • Gog of Magog — a title for the leader; ancient “Magog” = territory north of the Black & Caspian Seas, modern Russia.
  • Persia — modern Iran; its unprecedented arms partnership with Russia is unfolding before our eyes.
  • Cush & Put — Ethiopia/Northern Sudan and Libya, majority Sunni Muslim states.
  • Gomer & Togarmah — Eastern Europe (Germany/Poland) and Turkey/Armenia/Georgia.
  • Nations that merely question the invasion (Sheba, Dedan, Tarshish and her “young lions”) likely include Saudi Arabia, Britain, and perhaps the United States.
  • Absent players such as Egypt, Jordan, and Syria may already be neutralized or at peace with Israel.

3. dovetails with ’s Armageddon

• Shared elements: God’s wrath, a great earthquake, collapsing mountains, devastating hailstones, and plagues.
• Ezekiel shows the war’s opening moves; Revelation records its global culmination when “kings from the East” join the assault.
• The campaign’s true target is not only Israel but the God of Israel.

4. The return of Jesus ends the battle and exalts His name

• pictures Christ on a white horse, “Faithful and True,” His robe dipped in blood, crowned with many crowns.
• The redeemed—clothed in white linen—ride behind Him; with a word He strikes the nations.
• Purpose: “I will magnify Myself…then they shall know that I am the Lord” ().
• Because the Church is raptured before this conflict, believers look forward to rescue, not wrath.

Application

The call: Be ready, not frightened—settle your relationship with Jesus now and live as hopeful witnesses until He comes.

Head — Recognize God’s sovereignty over history and see current world alliances through the lens of Scripture.

Heart — Replace fear with worshipful anticipation: lift up your head, for your redemption draws near ().

Hands

  1. Examine your life; repent and trust Christ if you never have.
  2. Influence your world “like salt,” sharing the gospel while there is time.
  3. Pray for Israel, for the salvation of all nations, and for wisdom to discern the times.

Reflection Questions

  1. How does knowing the end of the story change the way you react to today’s headlines?
  2. Which aspect of Ezekiel’s coalition do you see emerging most clearly in current events?
  3. In what ways might you have been a “Chicken Little” Christian? What truth from this message speaks to that fear?
  4. What does Jesus’ promised return motivate you to do differently this week?
  5. How can you pray more intelligently for Israel and for the nations named in ?

Prayer

Sovereign Lord, You rule over the nations and over time itself. When the earth trembles and rumors of war grow loud, anchor our hearts in the certainty of Your return. Forgive our fears and fix our eyes on Jesus, the Faithful and True. Empower us to live as salt and light, drawing many to salvation before that great and final day. We trust You and we praise You, King of kings and Lord of lords. Amen.
